Chinese brands rise in colour TV UHD market

The latest data released by Display Search, an internationally renowned consulting company in the color TV industry, shows that in 2014, Hisense 4K TV ranked among the top three in the world with a market share of 11.30%, becoming the only Chinese brand with a global market share among the top three. CMM’s data is also consistent with this. In the Chinese market, as of January 2015, Hisense 4K TV ranked first with a market share of 19.2%, leading the second place by 4 percentage points. Industry experts believe that in the ultra-high-definition color TV market, Chinese brands represented by Hisense are gradually replacing foreign brands and becoming a new force leading ultra-high-definition display technology.

According to the analysis of Display Search, there were 15 million 4K TVs in the world in 2014, and the growth rate is expected to reach 50% to 100% in the next three years. By 2017, the market capacity will reach 60 million, accounting for 24% of the market share. Wu Rongbing, research director of Display Search, said that the current trend of ultra-high-definition in the global color TV market is very clear, and there is huge room for development.

Every industrial technology upgrade is a process of reshuffle. As far as the color TV industry is concerned, from the CRT era to the tablet era, Japanese and Korean brands have been leading the way for several years; with the advent of the high-quality ultra-high-definition era, domestic color TV companies are gradually showing their edge and are gradually surpassing foreign brands. From the end of 2013, Chinese color TV brands began to vigorously promote 4K products, and by 2014, the 4K market was booming. The most representative is Hisense's ULED TV with multi-zone independent backlight control technology. Although Samsung also joined the ranks of SUHD in the early stage, it was surpassed by Chinese brands in the Chinese market in the later stage.

"The reason why domestic color TV companies can perform well in the ultra-high-definition market is that they are the first to master the core technology." Wu Rongbing said, taking Hisense as an example, in March 2014, Hisense released its self-developed ULED TV. The backlight control and HiView picture environment engine technology effectively solve the problems of insufficient layering, insufficient color and detail expression and poor fluency of 4K TV screens, and realize the perfect picture quality performance of high contrast, high color expression and high-speed response.

Regarding how to further improve the picture quality of LCD TVs, Bao Ran, secretary-general of the China Interactive Media Industry Alliance, believes that ULED technology should be the best solution for improving the picture quality of LCD TVs that Chinese companies can control at present, and it is also the development of the next-generation TV display technology. The optimal solution, its cost-effectiveness is the easiest to be accepted by the market.
